You know, the Bryan brothers are obviously great for the game, but Nick Bryan, players don't say what they do or do what they say, and, you know, the player has a composite grip on the forehand volley.

I always think Jose Higueras, the voice of American tennis, on the forehand volley, it's almost a continental grip.

A true continental grip, the racket face is open a 45-degree angle.

And we ask people all the time, where do we get that 45 degrees? And they don't know.

Well, it was pretty hot for tennis in the nation's capital today.

Playing in a hundred degree courtside temperatures, top seeded Jimmy Connors and twelve seed Jose Higueras struggled to quarterfinal round victories in the one hundred and seventy-five thousand dollar Washington Star International Tennis Championship.

Connors gained a spot in Saturday's first semifinals against Higueras with a seven-five, six-four triumph over fifteen seeded Hans Gildemeister of Chile.

Meanwhile, Higueras's Spain earned the right to meet Connors with a six-four, six-four win over six seeded Harold Solomon of Silver Spring, Maryland.

And I think that's something that fascinates me now about coaching.

I remember one of the coaches I had was Jose Higueras, who probably helped me the most in my singles career because he kind of, like, evaluated my game and tried to tell me, like, how I could impact my opponents, you know, to be successful, which I'd never really thought about it before and it's interesting now, right? Hearing so many people talk and, and how they talk.

Like, we just think, like, "Okay, I've got a great forehand, I got great volleys, I, I can do this." But, like, how do you put the package together? Um, which is super important.

And like I said, I, I think I've finally started to believe, but it took me a really long time, and maybe, honestly, in the end, maybe I truly didn't believe.
