The proposal would remove existing restrictions in the city's zoning code that prohibit marijuana businesses from serving customers through drive-thru windows.

The change was requested by Douglas Mayor José Grijalva and received a favorable recommendation from the city's Planning and Zoning Commission during its September 17th meeting.

The proposal comes as an unnamed business operator who already holds an adult-use marijuana license is negotiating to lease a commercial building in Douglas that has been sitting vacant for several months.

What makes that particular property attractive is something it already has, a drive-thru window left over from a previous business.
