Jordan Fish

Like really, really hard.

And too many people in modern contemporary hard rock and metal, you know, the, the Deftones and the Jordan Fish influence.

Like y- we need a few more influences if you don't mind, please.

Is that fair?

He's kind of set up for himself.

And where does Jordan fish come into it? Like along that process, where did he jump on board?

so he came into it um pretty pretty late into the whole process i mean we had five or so songs when we had him come over to melbourne um and pretty much we had him over to one kind of help with like finalizing some stuff and and i guess like the album's been two years in the making.

So at that point, we're about a year and a half into working on all these songs.

And similarly, you know, enormous show packed out.

I think Evanescence are a band who we should be I think we have a people sometimes have a tendency to look over Evanescence because they are a strange dark horse in that group because they don't really feel like a new metal band in the same way that you know Core or even Deftones or whatever do they are like their own specific sort of phenomenon but they're very much there as part of that enormous pack right and Evanescence of those obviously a very if you're a long time listener you will know a very formative important band for me Fallen is basically the first metal album I ever went out and specifically you know sought out and bought so whenever I get the chance to see Evanescence like this it's always a big one even though I have not really cared about a great deal of what they have released in the last handful of years and I'll tell you this you know when you see people at shows and it's like you maybe the elder millennials or whatever but you see people at shows and it is so clear that they are like again getting on a bit in life and they are there for the old songs that they remember from their youth and they don't really know any new stuff just at any band you know show you can imagine in your head this is the most like that i have maybe ever felt at a show i was like i'm not i'm not even 30 yet and yet i have completely become like that old man millennial because it was honestly it was a case of like i was with you know a friend who has similarly formative evanescence feelings and it was like they would play a bunch of new songs and we'd be like okay alright and then they'd play Going Under and we'd go fucking feral and then they would play a bunch more new songs alright and then they'd call me when you're sober and we'd go fucking feral and it was just like this real rolling momentum of it they put out their album Sanctuary earliest year, which is the Jordan Fish produced one.

We didn't review it on the show, mainly because you and I, Sam, did not have it in us to talk about Jordan Fish producing a band who we both care about deeply in Evanescence.

I listened to the album for the second time ever on my way to this show to refresh myself on it, and It's certainly not the worst, like, you know, fishcore that is out there in the world.

And on a second go, and then seeing it live, there are a few songs on it that I think are alright.

They said the

Jordan Fish produced stuff.

Yeah.

The Jordan Fish, I mean, the Jordan Fish sits further along the spectrum where synth and track are like main instruments.

that's kind of that's the ultimate john fishing is when when they are like when there is a backing track which is doing the main riff and it's like okay this isn't this is not what i take to be a band

i case in point evanescence who was the last album he's just been involved with

ladder quicker.

Was there some sort of like pandemic flation with that band? Possibly.

Um, and it has your s- like, it has very, like, signature you sounds on them.

You know what I mean? As soon as you load it and you have all the presets, I'm like, okay, yeah, like, this is very Jordan Fish, right? Um, and I've been using it for the last month, like I mentioned before.

It's been a lot of fun.

Uh, I love, dude, I always throw on The Chonk, funny as fuck name, and The Goon.

Yeah, it's kind of different depending on the project.

Okay.

Well, okay, what is Jordan Fish's-

[clears throat]

Yeah, I mean, I had put Deftones in the notes.

I mean, honestly, I mean, a lot of it is a bit pop slop that Sleep Token put out, meeting bits of Deftones and Jordan Fish production with some, I actually thought of 30 Seconds to Mars in a few places, more in the, not the production, but the actual songwriting, like the structures and the hooks, the way they sort of end.

Yeah,

I can see that.

Mm-hmm

... you connected with Jordan Fish.

Yeah.

You know, a- and honestly, in a weird way, the music...

Yeah.

And that's what I was trying to, you know, express and... [sighs]

But it wasn't until you met Jordan Fish that this record started to take shape.
