Jordan Church

It's not breaking enough tackles.

I've seen some chatter that Jordan Church didn't have his best game individually, which I think allowed some of these plays to be blown up on you a little bit.

So 33-10.

A lot of sloppy football out there in the world in week one.

It's got somebody like Jacob Ponton, obviously we are very familiar with.

And there's one of the more intriguing new names in Jordan Church that's there at the right side as well.

And you hear about over and over and over a nasty disposition, an ability to move forward in the run-blocking game, and maybe a portion of your offensive line and a specific part of your team that is under-discussed so far coming into the year but will be very, very obvious whenever things get going.

We've tossed it out there a bit, but I think there could be some serious purpose in running to the right side.

He would grade out well, just a technician as an offensive lineman.

But again, he was limited with his size and measurables and all the things and what he could do athletically.

And now you get dropped, what is it, what are we, 6'4", about 330 of Jordan Church that grades out well.

And it was arguably the best run blocking offensive lineman in the portal.

Samson, backed up by Felix Ojo.

Left guard, Hunter Zambrano and Deontay Upshaw.

Apparently that was a pretty fierce battle there.

The Upshaw was legitimately going after some potential starting time there.

Center, Sheridan Wilson, Cash Cleveland, no surprises there.

Right guard, Jordan Church.

I've never heard of Elias Gillen.

He's your backup at right guard.

Also, to start the spring, Joey McGuire put out a depth chart, and it was just, here's our five offensive linemen.

Left to right, Ponton, Zambrano, Sheridan Wilson, Jordan Church, Jacob Ponton.

Now, late in fall camp here, DeAnthus Upshaw potentially has overtaken Zambrano at left guard.

He's another young guy.

Not just players.

Jordan Church would have started this year, gone to Texas Tech.

Moussa graduated.

Pounders graduated.

Are we also hearing something about, because we just talked about this yesterday, or I think two days ago, how this offensive line sounds like it is more geared to be nastier in the run-blocking game.

And Jordan Church gets highlighted a lot and how good he is there.

But are we hearing Coach McGuire also describe something that could be what is to this point a chink in the armor or something along those lines? Like if you get off schedule or you're in an obvious passing situation, Are we going to see this offensive line maybe in a way have to kind of catch up and be what they can be in the run game? Because that's something clearly, Chris, that could happen every once in a while.

I don't know.

Center Sheridan Wilson is back as well.

The only new starter along the front five is right guard Jordan Church, who is slated to start against Abilene Christian on September fifth.

The Louisville and Florida Atlantic transfer will bring plenty of seasoning with 26 career games and 15 starts under his belt.

According to PFF, he has logged 1,265 career snaps, allowing only three sacks and 27 total pressures across 651 pass-blocking reps.

While his on-field resume speaks for itself, what he accomplished this summer says even more about his character.

And I know we talk a lot about what happens on the field, but if you'll indulge me for just a moment, I feel like this is a lot more important.

Before heading into Lubbock for fall camp, Church returned home to Fort Myers, Florida to host a big man camp through his own Jordan Church brand LLC.

It was created specifically for the linemen who rarely get the spotlight.

He said, I know he's not Jacob, but as far as personality, they really have connected.

Along the offensive front, right guard Jordan Church's sheer physicality stood out right next to right tackle Jacob Ponton on the right side that McGuire described as genuinely edgy.

with Sheridan Wilson and Danny Sill also earning high praise.

McGuire readily admitted that the younger offensive linemen are getting baptized by fire on a daily basis.
