We're hopeful that there was a transition, and, uh, and I'm not saying that's r- you know, ridiculous.

But when, when it's so clear over time that these are cyclical things, and you can anticipate the cycle to just, you know, to just imagine, you know, Elizabeth May, you know, saying in 2020, you know, "I cry tears for those poor oil and gas workers," [laughs] you know, "who are all gonna lose their jobs." Uh, for the energy minister, Jonathan Wilkinson, to say literally just a year and a half ago, uh, "I expect oil will peak next year." He said in 2024 or 2025 that he expects oil to peak next year.

And, and convince themselves that that was true, and made decisions that were damaging to Canada on the idea there was no more demand for our oil when every data point shows again and again that there's very high demand for Canadian oil.

And I will say at least I think we have some political leadership that recognizes it.

Prime Minister Mark Carty called the results a sign of support for his government's plan.

The by-elections were necessary after three members of parliament, Jonathan Wilkinson, Nate Erskine-Smith, and Richard Martel, departed their roles.

Wilkinson accepted an ambassadorship, while the others were appointed to the Senate.

Voters in North Vancouver-Capilano overwhelmingly chose Cayley with nearly 59% of the vote last Monday.

And also to ensure that we do it in the right ways, and that was an important choice in this election.

We heard this too, right? Jonathan Wilkinson had served the riding for 10 years, 11 years.

He had done a very good job of ensuring that As we look to pursue economic growth, it's done in ways that protect conservation goals, get us closer to climate commitments.

And, you know, as the Prime Minister said, working in solidarity with Canadian workers, building sustainably to support that goal, and working in partnership with First Nations too.

And then you have North Vancouver won by Liberal Braden Cayley.

And they held the seat vacated by Jonathan Wilkinson with about 58% of the votes.

These results give the Liberals a net gain of one seat in the House and cements their majority in the Commons.

But let's focus on the core issue.

In British Columbia, out west, you've got the riding of North Vancouver at Capilano.

That was Jonathan Wilkinson, former energy minister's riding.

Then in Toronto, you've got in Ontario, Toronto, Beaches, East York, previously held by Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, who also would decisively win.

You know, I think he got something like 67% in the last election.
