#150 - World Championship Fever!
T
24:01Tim FordHOST
Do you know, it's so funny though.
T
24:02Tim FordHOST
So there's, there's a bunch of names that I haven't, it's Patrick Langer, Jonas Schomburg, Jamie Riddle, Cam Main, Matthew Marquardt, Pierre Lecour, Cam Wurf, Arnaud Guilliot.
T
24:11Tim FordHOST
Like there's so many who aren't even there yet or whatever.
T
24:13Tim FordHOST
Guess which, what name do you think I've read? I spotted, didn't read.
Wait... Is Kona Really Getting Cancelled?
J
39:06Jack KellyHOST
And so if he ultimately did get dropped by that front group and then he's back with Christian, it would have been the best thing ever for Christian because they would have just worked together.
J
39:16Jack KellyHOST
But now without him, it's just another person who's not there to try and help Christian go and catch the Sam Laidlaw, Jonas Schomburg, Jamie Riddle group.
J
39:25Jack KellyHOST
So I think ultimately it's a terrible thing for Christian's race.
J
39:29Jack KellyHOST
And I really think it hurts him on the bike because it's just another ally he doesn't have in.

And then in the men, I had Christian for the win.
U
79:21UrsulaHOST
And I think I put Jonas Schomburg in there.
U
79:25UrsulaHOST
Yes.
U
79:25UrsulaHOST
I don't know if Greg Harper got to me from the triathlon hour,
6 MINS LATER
U
85:29UrsulaHOST
back from an injury, though, I think, as well.
U
85:31UrsulaHOST
So we'll just say that.
U
85:34UrsulaHOST
So Jonas Schomburg, he came in at eight.
U
85:38UrsulaHOST
Let me down a little bit there, Jonas.
#148 - 70.3 World Championship Review
J
53:48James BaleHOST
Ahead of Lasse Priester.
J
53:50James BaleHOST
Ahead of Kasper Stornes, Jamie Riddle, Jonas Schomburg, Sam Dickinson and Michelle Bortolamidi in rounding out the top three.
J
53:59James BaleHOST
Hayden had a very triathlete-like performance.
J
54:06James BaleHOST
He had 21st fastest swim, second fastest bike, third fastest run, just bringing together a triathlete's performance to take that victory by 20...
IRONMAN 70.3 World Champs - Debriefing ALL The Chaos!
J
12:35Jack KellyHOST
And then by 90 kilometers it was two and a half minutes.
J
12:38Jack KellyHOST
So it really was kind of just that attack from Josh Ferris that Jamie Riddle jumped on board, and then Lasse Nygaard Priester and, and Jonas Schomburg became a part of.
J
12:47Jack KellyHOST
And then McHale bought a, bought a Lametti, Vicky's pick for, for the big underdog who was gonna shock the world.
J
12:53Jack KellyHOST
He jumped across, and there was this, this really random but not surprising group, maybe apart from Josh Ferris' group off the front of the race, who really made things hard for the favorites.
12 MINS LATER
J
25:14Jack KellyHOST
And so what happened was there was this really long line of, of men, and there was a lot of, like, hustling for positions.
J
25:21Jack KellyHOST
And early on you saw C- Christian trying to make passes, but he eventually kind of settled, 'cause he was like, "I don't wanna get involved in this surging and then having to drop back and then surging again." And I think that cost him, because he was just doing that at the early stages of the climb, and he couldn't even see the front of the race.
J
25:37Jack KellyHOST
And at this point, Josh Ferris is sending it off the front, and then Lassie joins him, and Jamie Riddle joins him, and Jonas Schomburg joins him, and they get a gap.
J
25:45Jack KellyHOST
And then other people try and bridge across to that, like Rico and Michele Bortolotti.
FINAL CHECK-IN: Can Jelle Geens Make 70.3 Worlds History?
J
40:33Jelle GeensHOST
I think Morgan Pearson, if he has a good bike, he can run himself into a podium spot.
J
40:38Jelle GeensHOST
Rico, if he has a... a crazy bike and a san francisco run he can be on the podium um like a jonas can do a jonas thing and you never know what to expect with him i think jamie riddle seems very um like very fit and and keen and like made this whole road bike set up for the climb and like he seems to be very focused on on this race so curious to see what what he can do like To win, I don't think maybe his run is quick enough, but I can see a scenario where he finishes on the podium.
J
41:14Jelle GeensHOST
If they can have a breakaway after the swim with Martin Jonas and Jamie and have a big enough gap to hold off the faster runners in the back, it's always possible.
J
41:27Jelle GeensHOST
I think that's about it.
A
41:30Aaron RoyleHOST
Yeah.
A
41:31Aaron RoyleHOST
No, so I agree.
A
41:32Aaron RoyleHOST
I think, um, those notable mentions.
A
41:34Aaron RoyleHOST
So the reason we left them off that what we came, the criteria that we came with Jack and I was that, um, we, you have to be, we have to believe that you will potentially win the race, right? Like not Ken, of course we had, we made that mistake around, uh, me asking Jack, like Ken Yellow in Ironman 70.3 was, of course you can, but, um, yeah, So we left those notable mentions off because we just didn't see a way in which they may win the race, right? Like, you know, so someone like a Jamie Riddle, yep, could be on the podium if he gets away with like a Martin and Jonas, et cetera.

T
62:05Tim FordHOST
Yens, Emil, Sloth, Nielsen, Martin Van Riel, Jason West, who I believe was hit by a car and has busted ribs, but he's still racing or something happened? Still racing, yeah, yeah.
T
62:17Tim FordHOST
Josh Ferris, Kasper Stepniak, Henry Rappo, no Lionel Sanders, unfortunately, just going through any other names that I recognise.
6 MINS LATER
T
68:02Tim FordHOST
And I don't know.
T
68:04Tim FordHOST
I have this belief that potentially, and I'm basing this a lot on Geelong, But maybe Hayden overdoes it a little bit on the bike, underestimates the impact of the heels on his legs and suffers for it.
J
68:18James BaleHOST
The challenge Hayden has, I think, is Jonas Schomburg.
J
68:22James BaleHOST
I think Rico Bogan overdoes it on the bike.

J
37:58Jenna-Caer SeefriedHOST
Like, it just is so many.
J
38:01Jenna-Caer SeefriedHOST
Although I am bummed I got to go the Canadian thing again, that Lionel Sanders is not going to be out here after.
J
41:36Jenna-Caer SeefriedHOST
Yeah, true.
J
41:36Jenna-Caer SeefriedHOST
He's got the swim and the run in there.
J
41:38Jenna-Caer SeefriedHOST
But Schoenberg, he just goes full gas all the time, and it's the best thing to watch.

J
33:21Jack KellyHOST
And then he took that form into Oceanside.
J
33:24Jack KellyHOST
And again, he beat Jonas Schomburg and Sam Long in a really good race and then went on to Texas.
J
33:28Jack KellyHOST
And I'm just like, This guy is in insane shape like he always is at the start of the year.
J
33:33Jack KellyHOST
What will he do now? Because historically, then he goes and races short course races, and then he does an Ironman, and then he gets to championship season, and he's throwing up all over the side of the road in races, and he just looks tired.
5 MINS LATER

Malachi, is your internet good enough for you to give us your contender or do you reckon you're just watching for the rest of the show?
M
39:09Malachi CashmorePANELIST
Well, I can't see any of your reactions, and Jack's face is covered up.
M
39:13Malachi CashmorePANELIST
But I've also written down Jonas Schomburg for similar reasons to Greg, because he's just an aggressive racer, and this is the kind of course that's going to suit a loose cannon who's willing to put it all on the line.
M
39:28Malachi CashmorePANELIST
You've got, you know, a crazy climb, good descending, and he's going to swim at the front, race from the front.
