Jonadab

And Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her, but Amnon had a friend.

whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimea, David's brother.

And Jonadab was a very subtle man.

Let's pray, Lord God.

We are thankful for your word.

In his mind, he loved his sister in a sinful way, in an evil way.

But he didn't want to do any harm to her until verse number three.

But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab.

It says, Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.

Jonadab said to him, Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill.

And when your father comes to see you, say to him, Let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.

Verse 6, So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill.

Then the king rose, tore his garments, and lay on the earth.

Verse 32.

But Jonadab, the son of Shimei, David's brother, said, Let not my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men or the king's sons, for Amnon alone is dead.

There, verse 37.

It was a total absorption, self-absorption.

with this issue, and a friend of his called Jonadab, you can read it there in 2 Samuel 13, said to him, why don't you pretend to get sick and go to bed and ask your father David to have Tamar come and make a meal for you in your bedroom, in your presence, and then feed it to you, and when you're there alone, make your move.

Well, Amnon did that.

Tamar was sent, David became unwittingly involved in this process and Tamar came to make him a meal and it says in verse 10 then Amnon said to Tamar bring the food here into my bedroom so I might eat from your hand and Tamar took the bread she had prepared and brought it to her brother Amnon in his bedroom but when she took it to him to eat he grabbed her and said come to bed with me don't she said to him don't force me such a thing should not be done in Israel don't do this wicked thing Verse 14 says, but he refused to listen to her.

Amnon died.

Amnon died because of a man called Jonadab who gave him the wrong advice on how to rape his sister.

He followed that advice and Absalom killed him.

And he was alive to explain Absalom's death to his father.

Amen.

And Jonadab was a very subtle man.

You know who else was subtle in Genesis 3? Satan.

And you can read the rest of the story there, and we see that it doesn't turn out well.

You better make sure you have the right kind of friends in your life.

Because Amnon had a friend, and it wasn't really his friend, but he called himself a friend.

And Jonadab caused, amen, some really, really grievous things in Tamar's life and Amnon's life.

And it seemed hard to Amnon to do anything under her.

But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimea, David's brother.

And he said unto him, Why, O son of the king, art thou thus lean from day to day? Wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar my brother Absalom's sister.

And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and feign thyself sick.

And when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, Let my sister Tamar come, I pray thee, and give me bread to eat, and dress the food in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand.

so amnon lay down and feigned himself sick and when the king was come to see him amnon said unto the king let my sister tamar come i pray thee and make me a couple of cakes in my sight that i may eat from her hand then david sent home to tamar saying go now to thy brother amnon's house and dress him food So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house, and he was laid down.

Then all the king's sons arose, and every man gat him up upon his mule and fled.

And Amnon was so tormented that he made himself ill because of his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed impossible to Amnon to do anything to her.

And Jonadab was a very crafty man.

And he said to him, O son of the king, why are you so haggard morning after morning? Will you not tell me? Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.

Jonadab said to him, Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill.

And when your father comes to see you, say to him, Let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.

So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill.
