There will be Australian and, in fact, New South Wales-based referees appointed to this game and one of those uh referees will be the fourth official on that night john moss who is the head of referees at football australia now i don't know exactly how long the list of potential options were for this role uh i wonder if john moss has kept his badges up i'm not sure what the requirements are at certain levels of australian football what qualifications you need to have obviously no one's doubting his um you know pedigree and experience as an official right but in terms of those badges is that ticked off and the fact that again the relationships here must be really tricky but the fact that you know he's the people that he's working for essentially the referees in australian football are going on strike and all of a sudden here's your referee uh on the touchline as the fourth official for the australia cup semi-final it's just a bit strange

But I think that just makes it even more complicated and even more just kind of weird because it is this three-party thing with the refs union and the referees and then the referees... paneled or whatever they're calling it with which John Moss is a part of in the leagues and yeah it's all just super complicated I'm with you I think the weirdest thing is like he hasn't reffed a game since 2022 when he was still refereeing in the Premier League and then after that he was appointed he became the manager of the select group there in England which is like the most elite of the elite referees and kind of involved in their appointments and managing them and then obviously came over here and took the role with FA I'd be surprised if he's reffed a game in the last four years.

And okay, you go, yeah, but he's just fourth official.
