Joint Task Force 2

Today, we are going to talk about his time in the instructing world in Moose Jaw, which is where I first ran into Todd, as well as returning to 427 and the evolution of special operations aviation in Canada.

You had been working with JTF2 and developing a bunch of soft aviation tactics.

After you did a staff tour in Ottawa, you were selected to become Apache Flight Commander at 2CFFTS or 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School during the launch of

NFTC, which is NATO Flying Training in Canada,

And we were in this very unique role where we had one customer really, which was, uh, Dwyer Hill.

And, uh, You know, and we worked for the DCDS at the time, which was this sort of ops arm of the military.

And if we got sent out the door, it was the DCDS that sent us out the door in support of JTF2.

And we would literally just leave.

And the team went to work.

It was our lone Canadian, a JTF2 operator.

who came up with the idea.

We got private donations, somebody that had a jet, because all jets were getting booked for the second the lift was removed.

And there's four of us linked up, Andy Stump, myself, a guy named Fred Williams, who's well-known in the skydiving industry, former SEAL, but basically has one of the largest – let's say manufacturing rep companies and training companies to the military.

And it was really first in the industry.

And then I'm trying to remember, oh, Glen Cowan, the JTF2 operator.

And the photographer took the photo right on top of us so you could see the very tip of the pyramid in the center of our hands.

It w- it, it just was.

We're gonna start sort of getting into what led you to JTF2.

After Somalia, you began augmenting support to the RCMP.

What did that work involve?

Yeah.

It, it was.

After that, you were able to continue to dip your toes into that sort of environment when you became the first air liaison officer assigned to JTF2.

Uh, how did that come about?

Now, here's where things get weird.

Because these semi-incarnate entities hadn't returned to Earth looking to recruit members of Delta Force, Navy SEALs, France's GIGN, Canada's Joint Task Force 2, which makes me think of Vindicator and Sasquatch.

Hell yeah.

Immediately.

Canadian naval ships were dispatched to the Arabian Sea off the Southwest Asia, uh, uh, coast to patrol the sea for vessels engaged in illegal activity.

In December of 2021, commandos from the Canadian elite Joint Task Force Two, or JTF2, were sent to Afghanistan to join American, British, and other international forces fighting the Taliban.

More soldiers soon followed, and Canada would stay in the region until 2014.

By the time the operation ended, 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces had served in Afghanistan, and 158 Canadian soldiers had lost their lives.

The legend resurfaced on June 2026 when armwrestling icon and former Canadian soldier Devon Larratt appeared on episode 2510 of the Joe Rogan Experience.

Before his armwrestling career, Larratt served in the Canadian Armed Forces, including with Joint Task Force 2, Canada's elite special operations units.

During the podcast, he described seeing an unusually large Afghan warlord while deployed in a mountainous region.

Larratt estimated that the man stood around 8 feet tall, with the officer meeting him reaching only to the bottom of his chest.

So folks, you probably already know who Dallas is.

If you haven't heard of him before, he is a former Canadian special operations sniper who served over a decade with JTF2, Canada's elite counterterrorism and hostage rescue unit, a member of the four-man sniper team credited with the world record for the longest confirmed sniper shot at 2.2 miles.

In 2021, he made headlines across North America after refusing Canada's COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates.

Ultimately being pushed out of the unit, he'd called home for 14 years.

His story became a flashpoint in the national conversation around military mandates, free choice, and institutional overreach.

And since leaving JTF2, Dallas has reinvented himself as a country music artist, trading a sniper scope for the stage.

Wow, my friend, you're making me feel like an underachiever here.

Your accolades are next level here.

Not just him, his whole team and many others.

I don't have an exact count on number, but apparently a catastrophic number of operators and assaulters left JTF2.

The best unit that we have, top guys in the world, in the entire world.

The best shooter cell in the world.

The sniper team at JTF2, they all quit.

Because Dean Allison's mandates that he supported, like everybody else fucking supported.

So we've lost that also.

And full disclosure, you know, not a lot was known, and this is, you know, late 90s, early 2000s.

JTF2 is just something people...

heard

of.

And when I joined Amherstburg, ironically, there was two police officers in the next area over, an Essex police OPP, both ex-JTF2.

And so I started, a friend of mine worked there, and he started telling me more about JTF2, more about the teams, more about stuff, and where YouTube wasn't a thing, so you're scouring the internet for videos or something like that.

And whether I had it or not, I didn't believe I did.

And it would have been something, you know, if you could dial the clock back a hundred percent, like just try, I'd rather just try it and failed.

Not everyone could be a Navy SEAL.

JTF2.

Yeah,

sorry, JTF2, something like that.

You know, not everyone can be that.
