Joint base

It's the Friday News Roundup where we talk about stories in the news this week.

And the Massachusetts Army National Guard's proposal to build a machine gun range on Joint Base Cape Cod is back in the news this week.

CAI's Gilda Geis joins us to tell us more.

Hi, Gilda.

Who's on this committee and what are they doing?

Yeah.

So just to remind people, this multipurpose machine gun range proposed for the Joint Base has faced strong opposition from the public and from environmental groups.

And in 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released findings that the gun range could contaminate local drinking water.

So that would make them pleased.

Secondly, you know, rolling out the red carpet, the president going out to meet President Xi at Joint Base an- uh, Joint Base Andrews, uh, no president has done that since John F. Kennedy in 1962 went to meet with a British prime minister.

So they're gonna feel, the Chinese, that we gave them deference, we treated them as a peer equal, and that they received treatment that no American ally has, uh, has received.

And that also, I think, is a mistake.

Here's CNBC's Joe Kernen.

President Trump traveled to Joint Base, uh, Andrews outside Washington to greet China's leader.

On tap for today, an arrival ceremony at the White House, a review of troops.

The White House will host a black tie dinner tonight, uh, with tech titans like NVIDIA's Jensen Huang, Tesla's Elon Musk, many, many more.
