And that way, we can obtain the graces that we're so desirous of for others.

And one of the things he gives an example in here is St. John Marie Vianney.

Other priests in his diocese were complaining how they had prayed and they were doing preaching and they weren't winning the conversion of their parishioners.

They weren't changing.

But there's also this specific dimension with prayer.

So I'm reminded here of a story that St. John Vianney would tell, where there was, I believe it was a farmer in his parish who would spend hours a day in prayer.

And finally, he asked the man, "What do you do all day?" And the man said, "I look at him, and he looks at me." And that's such a beautiful understanding of prayer, that you're going to look at your Savior and allowing yourself to be seen by him and receiving that, and that's all that it takes.

So that's the first, and that is the biggest in my view, the biggest problem in how we pray.

Well, similarly, uh, she suggests that St. John Vianney is this great confessor because he has learned how to study and be attentive, and that this allows him to be attentive to the voice of God in prayer, and allows him to be attentive to the person in the confessional.

Because frequently, both God and the person that we're encountering don't just give us everything we want right away in the way that we want it, so we have to, uh, persevere.

And we might actually want to go there sooner rather than later.

St. John Vianney used to say, when we get to heaven and see all the happiness which is to be ours forever, we shall wonder why we wanted to remain even one day on earth.

And you know, when you believe in heaven, it can make life on earth much more bearable.
