We have to go back now and actually have some teaching to learn more so that we can mature in our clinical approach.

I've shown this quote before, and I don't put this up to discourage you or to be judgmental at all, but in his book, Making the Best of It, John Stackhouse says this, in a wide-ranging study of a number of major American denominations, the Search Institute determined that the most important factor in producing a mature, well-balanced and well-integrated Christian faith was not excellent preaching or worship or small group fellowship or anything else, but adult Christian education.

And yet I dare say there's no element in contemporary church life that is more poorly undertaken.

A sermon and a home Bible study each week cannot possibly suffice.

Making that growth scenario work is surely the task ahead.

So is Canada up to that job? John Stackhouse is senior vice president at RBC, heading its thought leadership group.
