John Raitt

Right now, as we expect some 92,000 or 3,000, they are rising as the Marine Color Guard from the USS Los Angeles...

For the raising of all glory, and the national anthem will be sung following that by John Raitt, famous star of stage, screen, and television.

The Marine Color Guard now moves out beyond second base.

And in a moment, with both the Dodgers and the White Sox lined up, here is John Raitt and our national anthem.

Scott Drysdale will be the pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Nick Donovan for the Chicago White Sox.

A hand for the most recent inductee in the Hall of Fame, the Dodgers' Zach Wheat, who from the mound tosses out the first ball.

They're discussing a few ground rules.

Concerning the singing of the national anthem today, the well-known John Raitt will be singing it for us.

The color guard is now about to assemble down here to our left.

And I understand the first ball today will be thrown out by the President of the University of Southern California, Dr. Norman Topping.

And it's just, it's like a dream.

These home movies were taken by 26-year-old John Raitt.

Prior to this day, before television, the closest he could get to big league stars was the newsreels at the movie theater.

And I'd never seen a big league game and never seen even a semi-league.

One of the joys I have had in summer stock is I became good friends with some people.

One of my closest friends for over 30 years was John Raitt.

Heard of him.

This was his big break in Carousel.

Raitt's perspective.

So not bad work for one audition.

Do you know if there's any validity to the rumor that when Oklahoma and Carousel were running concurrently, sometimes Alfred Drake and John Raitt would just decide to swap roles without telling anyone? No.

Okay.
