John Porter

the deal was we pay our way over, plane ticket, but when we get there we've got a job.

So we both went there and had a job in London working for Island Records playing, you know, we were their studio house guys pretty much for we didn't do everything but we were in their on their call you know so um we did that and uh that turned into joining a band with paul kossoff from free yeah and that was backstreet crawler so i went from that life of what i was trying to do before to in a heavy heavy heavy english band and it was really really a lot of fun it was a great experience and uh that lasted for a while but paul didn't last and paul had had a sad ending and um

great guitarist

great guitar still very much uh a big light shining on him from the past from people that fans of his that you know him and his style and the way he played it was really a great simple style it was brilliant and um And then when he passed, we moved our record deal from Atlantic.

he came to see his play there and that was like the guys they were the ex bonnie rate band and we call ourselves padlock from some joke that we had years before and it was johnny lee and me and hutch in the beginning and then hutch got busy again with bonnie we got another bass player and marty grab at the time was still alive and kicking and singing wonderfully and Then we got some horns, and then we got different singers, and Bobby King came and sang with us for a good long while.

It was smoking.

And John Porter, English producer, was— Yeah, I know John.

Yeah,

When I met John Porter while he was at the Taj Mahal session, which I was brought to by a friend named Chick Streetman.

He brought me to Taj Mahal.

And he said, bring your tapes.

Yeah.

Well, I mean, they tried recording this album multiple times with multiple producers, John Leckie, Mike Hedges, John Porter.

And so this album comes out of sessions with Steve Lillywhite.

But even these sessions were scrapped.
