thank you john correct um i think it's going to be uh chaotic negotiations remember you only have 14 days once the results are tabled to form those coalitions so it doesn't leave a lot of time i think right now if you had to take the enca mark data poll the scenarios on the table would be Government of National Unity Light, i.e. the DA and the ANC.
Wayne SussmanGUEST
1:20
Another option could be the same old, same old, which would be the ANC, the EFF, Patriotic Alliance, Al-Jamaa and some other political parties.
Wayne SussmanGUEST
1:31
Another option, John, could be the DA, the Freedom Front, Action SA and the PA.
Wayne SussmanGUEST
1:36
But we know right now there's not a lot of Christmas cards going between the DA and Action SA and the DA and the PA.
John PerlmanHOST
1:45
Yeah.
John PerlmanHOST
1:46
I mean, I don't see how the ANC, and guide me with the numbers, unless they, do they have a route to a coalition government without the MK party? The numbers look very tight to me.
Wayne SussmanGUEST
2:02
um it will be difficult and that's the million dollar question uh is how will the anc approach um after this election if they do want to form a stable coalition without the democratic alliance because the democratic alliance is um according to the polls uh expected to grow in this election and a lot of those roots john you're 100 correct do go via um who are expected to grow in this particular election So that is the million dollar question.
Wayne SussmanGUEST
2:33
Is the ANC going to choose to work with the DA or choose to work with Contourist Israel? If I look at the numbers quickly, John, you are 100% correct.
John PerlmanHOST

What are the courts here and what's going to happen next? Good afternoon.

Hi, John.
Dimakatso LeshoroCORRESPONDENT
0:38
So the case was postponed.
Dimakatso LeshoroCORRESPONDENT
0:39
We were expecting the postponement, John, because of the Matala trial and how these intertwined is because in the Matala trial, I'm not sure if you recall, but there is a trial within a trial regarding the evidence, the admissibility of evidence.
Dimakatso LeshoroCORRESPONDENT
0:54
This evidence includes weapons that were used in the attempted murders in that trial.
Dimakatso LeshoroCORRESPONDENT
1:00
This case, the same weapons are alleged to have been used in the murders in this case.
Dimakatso LeshoroCORRESPONDENT
1:56
So today when we went to court, we were expecting the matter to be postponed.
Dimakatso LeshoroCORRESPONDENT
1:59
It's been agreed that it will proceed in the third term of next year on the 19th of July.
John PerlmanHOST
1:14
Executive Mayor, if it's possible to do all this in 100 days, why has that, for example, not been done in the city of Johannesburg? You, as the ANC after all, have held the mayorship since the 16th of August 2024.
Dada MoreroGUEST
1:30
Thank you, John, and good afternoon.
Dada MoreroGUEST
1:33
You understand that part of the manifesto is to say what are the key issues that you can prioritize in the first 100 days when you take office, and those key issues that the manifesto is then highlighting as the basic issues that requires attention.
Dada MoreroGUEST
1:54
and that we should focus on by setting up the necessary systems, more about getting the necessary resources, and go on ground to resolve those.
John PerlmanHOST
4:29
Why would you need to do that in municipalities? And we don't have to focus just on Joburg because you are speaking more generally on behalf of the ANC.
John PerlmanHOST
4:37
But in places where you've governed, I mean, surely you have a clear sense of what money is available, what's prevented these things from being fixed and what it would take to get them fixed.
Dada MoreroGUEST
4:50
Yeah, for example, John, you'd know that the budget adjustment will clearly define what you have to do because you're getting into a new election and you're getting an election between a budget that has already been passed, which means your opportunity to readjust your own priorities when you come into government will only happen during the budget adjustment in January, which cuts across all municipalities throughout the country because our budget cycle is the same because we are governed by the same legislation.
Dada MoreroGUEST
5:25
So therefore, that is why some of the manifesto issues are captured around those areas because you are live to the fact that you can now readjust your budget.
John PerlmanHOST

So a lot of parties, and indeed this is where government policy is heading, talk about ring-fencing revenue from water and electricity provision, the money that people are paying for either of those two services or both, and channeling that towards ensuring infrastructure development and maintenance.
John PerlmanHOST
1:24
But secondly, how do you determine if it's practical or not?
Dulton AdamsGUEST
1:29
Yeah.
Dulton AdamsGUEST
1:30
Thank you so much, John, for the opportunity.
Dulton AdamsGUEST

theft, uttering and other charges related to a falsified contract to the tune of 12 million rands.

So the importance of this trial, John, is that it gives us insight into how SSA operated and worked under the state capture years under Jacob Zuma.
Pieter Du ToitGUEST
3:20
It will give us insight into how it was politicized, and more importantly, how resources were extracted and diverted in service of Jacob Zuma.
John PerlmanHOST
3:29
In terms of the eventual agreement that there should be and can be coverage of the trial, the blanket ban, what was the motivation for it?
Pieter Du ToitGUEST
3:44
John, I simply cannot overstate the importance of the agreement and the agreement reached between the parties this morning in the High Court in Pretoria and the eventual order that was agreed upon.
Pieter Du ToitGUEST

702 Drive, when new councils are elected and new municipal and metro governments take shape, eventually they will be operating under some very, very strictly revised rules.
John PerlmanHOST
0:17
The finance rules governing the operations of local government have not really been revised for a couple of decades now, but that process is very well underway.
John PerlmanHOST
0:43
One of the changes that is being looked at is changing how financial misconduct in municipalities and metros are actually investigated.
John PerlmanHOST
