Milli Vanilli and Daryl Hall and Jon Oates.

Regarding Daryl Hall and Jon Oates, So Close was the band's last big hit.

It fell just out of the top 10 at number 11.

So Close definitely deserved the top spot, though.

Co-written and produced alongside Jon Bon Jovi and Danny Karchmar, some brilliantly fused Daryl Hall and Jon Oates' signature blue-eyed soul with the soaring, radio-ready rock grandeur of the early 90s.

Daryl Hall turns in one of his most passionate vocals on this one.

So Close delivered a timeless sound that effortlessly bridged pop, rock, and soul.

In this episode, we had a chance to explore his winding path into the music industry.

So I played acoustic electric guitar and mandolin with Jerry off and on for six or seven years.

We toured with Paul Simon for three months, got to hang with Steve Gadd and all the Africans in Paul's band that were on all his records, and it was just amazing.

So every one of those... every one of those little experiences you know getting to be friends with John Oates through Jerry and Telluride you know and and now he's one of my best friends and and just uh you know developing real relationships not just blowing through a bunch of people and trying to climb your claw your way to the top it's like there is no top you know the the top is uh building these relationships, man.

I mean, this neck of this guitar is like a lightning rod for relationships.

That's what this thing is, you know? And so I'm not, I love playing the guitar, but I'm not a fanatic about it.

And then John Oates was in to talk about Rock the Hall, and we featured Dolly because he wanted to do somebody who had a great connection with both the Rock Hall and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Literally five minutes before... we had heard the news, I had just texted our friend Ellen Liston over at Dollywood and said, hey, when are you going to be in town? We'd love to have you talk about everything going on.
