John Morales

... catch me on the rebound, baby.

And the equally legendary John Morales-

You'll have to catch me

... on the rework of Catch Me on the Rebound.

As always, in the middle of the show we bang in four classics and call it the Classic Dance Floor Four, with two 50-minute mixes as well.

And today, taken from the Mix from the Max album, Alicia Myers, Gil Morales, I Wanna Thank You.

[singing] I know it couldn't happen without your love.

Ooh.

Yeah, yeah.

Well, welcome along once again, Soulful family, to the soulful sounds of Funky New Disco right here in the AM.

We kicked it off with Alicia Myers and John Morales From the Mix to the Max album, "And I Want to Thank You," and in the background, going back to 2025, "Reach Up" by The Love Society.

But before we go any further, we always like to say a big thank you to Paul Phillips for the Soulful Groove Show each and every Thursday at 10:00.

Got a new album out on Z Records, Remixed to the Max.

Dave Lee and John Morales on the mix of, uh, the tunes.

This is, uh, The Brothers Johnson's The Real Thing, mixed up by Dave Lee.

[upbeat music] So glad we got a good thing.

I keep wanting to go into club, Club Tropicana with that bass line.

[laughing] [upbeat music] Good mix set.

As I said, on the, uh, new Remix for the Max album from, uh, John Morales and Dave Lee.

The Brothers Johnson and The Real Thing, into John Williams.

I'll step right up

... uh, I think there's a John Morales remix of that, and also an Oppolopo remix of it as well.

I'll be seeing you.

Uh, but, uh, it is time to start getting you warmed up, uh, for, uh, the Northern Threesome with Mr. Phyllis.

Next track, Love Injection by Trussell from 1979 on the Electra label.

Now, we've actually talked about this track before on our April 1980 episode with John Morales.

I don't want to repeat too much of what was said there.

This one peaked at number 10 on the Record Mirror disco chart, reviewing it in December 1979.

What Robert Williams said was, hey, if you play at the power plant, you'll be second fiddle always, you know.

But if you come to play at my club, the Music Box, you'll be the top dog.

Yeah, I mean, it was interesting that what you said about playing the mid tempo stuff, because we had John Morales on and he spoke about that kind of 112 to 115 type sweet spot, he called it, you know, he was talking about the music back then.

Yeah, you know, there was much more variation in the tempo.

Okay, Solar Family, just like I said, big thank you to everyone who made it down to Southampton last weekend for Soul on the Solent.

The DJs, Russ Cole on his debut, Paul Lewis funking things up, Ian Johns rocking the house, Phil Baker blinding us with his shirts and Robbie Peters with a wonderful finale.

The Wabs as well, Angie, Joni, Sandra and Maureen.

This is the best Soul Cruise we ever do.

Mark Ketchley, good to see you down there on Solon.

Ray Hayden as well, we love staying up late.

Espen over there in Norway, Janie Bishop, John Johns, Rob Coley, Ray Caviano, Stacey Wilson, Steve Illingsworth, how you doing Steve? And Adrian Iggleston as well.

Lee Bowen and the lovely Jackie, good to see you down on the Solent as well.
