John Lloyd

We did it very much as a radio scripted exercise with our scripts at the mic.

And we'd have very precise direction from John Lloyd or Jeffrey Perkins, who also directed the show.

Sadly, passed away very, very young.

um and then on a sunday it was all edited together with the puppeteers had worked separately and it was all kind of put together and it went out on the sunday night and there it was as if by magic this very very topical show but even though you know some of us have remained uh in the public eye some of us may not be so well known anymore spitting image itself has remained an iconic classic satire series.

And it gets very technical.

And because we had probably, in my opinion, having worked with lots of producers, we had John Lloyd, who was the finest comedy producer I've ever met.

I mean, he'd done Not the Nine O'Clock News.

He'd done Black Adder.

But it sounded dreadful.

And when we came to the first show, we had to dub a lot of it because the sound quality wasn't good enough.

And then John Lloyd brought in a lot of extra people.

So some of the puppeteers in the original few shows, they did the voices of people like Norman Tebbit or the Duke of Edinburgh.

Amazing.

Because it sounds like, I don't know if you know, John Lloyd, the great producer, did To the Man of Bourne.

Yeah, yeah, I knew John.

He said in those days, same as Monty Python, you could have a meeting, 20 minutes, half an hour, and things were commissioned.

So it's nothing if not variety.

And also the whole thing is being presented by a very old friend of mine, John Lloyd, who, uh, people might know as a comedy producer.

So he's, he's hilarious.

And I just hope and think it's gonna be a really warm evening, which just reminds people to think about, just to notice actually, to bring communities together and to notice each other and to kind of support each other.
