They get tangled up with flamboyant band manager Ronnie "Z-Man" Barzell.

That is John Lazar.

He's playing this riff on Phil Spector.

And they meet Z-Man's hangar-ons.

I think there's an authenticism to someone like that who moved to Los Angeles to kinda reinvent himself.

Yeah, absolutely.

I mean, the way that this actor like John Lazar just delivers his Shakespearean language-

He's like Rob Zombie.

So, uh, John Lazar.

[laughs] John Lazar, uh, Ronnie Z-Man Barzell.

Uh, he was inspired by, uh, Phil Spector.

Uh, which is crazy because he shoots a woman in the mouth in a mansion, which decades later Phil Spector would actually do in real life and go to jail, and wear some pretty incredible wigs along the way.

So I'm definitely going to share this episode, but I found that to be just very cool.

So Erica Gavin, she plays her aunt, and she knows about this party hosted by Ronnie Z-Man Barzell, played by John Lazar.

And so they get a chance – to play a party with Strawberry Alarm Clock.

And so that kind of kept up their fame.

Also notable, the villain of the film, The Evil Sorcerer, is played by John Lazar.

Sort of psychotronic sleaze cinema as Ronnie Z-Man Barzell in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls from 1970 where he utters the immortal line, it is my happening and it freaks me out.

He also says, tonight you will drink the black sperm of my vengeance.

I just mean like in terms of like the tropes of this kind of film, there's no magic in it at all.

No, no, no.

I mean the magic is John Lazar and Monique Gabriel who are both great.
