John Gregorson Campbell

The Glaistig is often depicted as having gray skin, golden hair, and wearing a green dress to conceal her goaty legs.

As the minister of Tiree for the Church of Scotland, John Gregorson Campbell spent thirty years on the Hebridean island collecting stories of fairies and other supernatural entities entirely from oral sources in Gaelic.

He was not a folklorist by training, but rather a parish minister who understood that the world his congregants knew was disappearing.

Campbell wrote down many stories of the Glaistig.
