Actor John Gavin, who played Sam Loomis in Psycho 1960, was very much still alive when Psycho II was made, but by this time, he had moved from acting to public service and was made U.S.

Ambassador to Mexico by fellow former actor President Ronald motherfucking Reagan, which he served as from 1981 to 1986.

However, he does appear in a photograph in the movie.

It's directed by Albert Hitchcock.

It stars Martin Balsam, John Gavin, Janet Leigh, John McIntyre, Vera Miles, and Anthony Perkins.

The film grossed approximately $32.2 million domestically, making it the second highest grossing film of 1960.

The film's shower scene was ranked number four on Broadway's list of the 100 scariest movie moments.

And I was like, he's fucking badass.

I mean, you know, I, John and I when we talked about this on our, uh, I guess on the world- and, and maybe Jared when we talked about it on the World Cup show a few months ago, uh, John and I were agreeing that this is a movie that scared us to death when we were little kids.

This is, like, the scariest, like, the spookiest, scariest Bond movie of all.

... which considering they'd actually signed John Gavin for the previous one is an interesting change of heart, but, um-

And it was interesting.

I spent the first part of the movie thinking, you know, because I have this image in my mind of Anthony Quinn, and I'm like, was he miscast in this? Should they have cast somebody else just because he doesn't quite seem to fit the mold of who I would put in a role like this? You know, this being like Universal in the 60s, I would put somebody maybe like John Gavin or somebody like that in this role.

You know, speaking of Psycho.

But...

George came in really tricky to do what George did, but he did it, did it very well in hindsight at the time, you know, I mean, it was, it was a hit, but it wasn't collectively appreciated the way it is now.

And then, um, Even UA, when they signed John Gavin, because they signed John Gavin, an American, as Bond, contract, photographs, whole nine yards, Broccoli paid him all the money that he owed him and said, we're going to go with Sean.

And the head of UA, David Picker, said, I'll offer him whatever he wants.

A million and two, I think was what he was offering, which was huge money at the time.

And in researching that, obviously I'm doing quite a lot of research, you find out these things that you might hear and then just forget.

So like after On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which is the Lazenby one, They signed John Gavin up to play Bond in the next film.

So John Gavin is the guy that's in Psycho.

So he's the boyfriend in Psycho that comes and investigates Janet Leigh's murder with his girlfriend who's Janet Leigh's sister.

I think that'd be my favorite.

So they got John Gavin in, they contracted him, he signed a contract and everything.
