John Curley

But, um, I met kind of an older group of musicians who had great bands and all recorded themselves and really took interest in us and of me.

And one of those people was John Curley, who was in this band, the Afghan wigs.

And he had a studio called ultra suede in Cincinnati and, really the only 70s era just professional studio in Cincinnati.

All right.

It's a fantastic record.

And on our podcast, we did talk to John Curley, their bass player, a couple years ago.

And we thought we would rebroadcast that.

Hi, John.

Our first rehearsal was October 31st, 1986.

But we started in John Curley's apartment in the living room.

We were playing shows by January of 87.

To do anything that long is pretty wild.

Mm.

And John Curley, uh, uh, would always play with me in Cincinnati.

Whenever I would come through, he'd get up and we'd do some Whig songs.

Mm.

Yeah.

And, and oddly enough, John Curley from The Afghan Whigs was part of Penitent Curtis, the record when I lived in Cincinnati.

So I worked at his studio and, um, we got to work out at Ultrasuede there, and we were one of the last bands to record there.

They were literally tearing the studio down as we were recording there.
