John Cecil Masterman

And if you think about it, the intelligence community in World War II relied incredibly heavily on the minds of novelists.

I mean, John Masterman, who chaired the 20 Committee, which oversaw all the double agents in Britain, he wrote detective novels.

Ian Fleming obviously became a novelist.

Spying and writing novels share the exact same core mechanic, don't they?

It has to smell like sweat in cigarette smoke.

And they went to ridiculous, almost petty lengths for authenticity in the clothing.

Remember John Masterman, the Oxford Don who chaired the 20 committee?

Yeah.
