I'm a co-chair of the BHBA's Trust in Estates Law Section.

Before we begin, I'd like to take a moment to introduce Nancy Sanborn and Brian Joy of the Sanborn team.

It's a recent case out of the California Court of Appeal arising from a Los Angeles County Superior Court decision.

This case concerns the application of California's anti-lapse statutes.

In this case, the settler's son, who was a named trust beneficiary but pre-deceased her, and left three children.

The trust contained a standard provision stating that any beneficiary who failed to survive the settlor by 30 days would be deemed to have pre-deceased her.

I don't understand why they chose to have him look like that, but it's not a hairstyle he should have.

Um, he is, his name is John Branca.

He was Michael Jackson's attorney for a good chunk of his life.

Um, he's also one of the producers of this movie.
