John Birt, Baron Birt

You know, there were all these floors with all these incredibly creative people.

In the days where John Birt was running the, you know, the Weekend World.

Even before that, when somebody like Peter Jay, the British ambassador to the USA.

Guys that started up Good Morning TV were working then th- at London Weekend.

It's just we've all grown up, all of us, through the industry, and had the benefit of all everybody else's talent rubbing off on each of us.

The first actual UK stuff I ever directed was called Skin.

Uh, it was produced by a, a woman called Jane Hewland, who worked directly to John Birt, and these were minority strands.

Never been done before.
