John Bauer

Thankfully, the artist behind those paintings and illustrations is a national treasure of Sweden.

John Albert Bauer was born on June 4, 1882 in Jönköping, Sweden, located around 150 km east of Gothenburg.

Son of Josef Bauer and Emma Charlotte Waddle, John's father came to Sweden from Bavaria, starting a charcuterie business.

The family lived in an apartment above the shop until moving into their newly constructed house in 1881, with John being born a year later.
