I think for me, a role model is John Bardeen, who was a theoretical physicist, uh, focused on semiconductor charge transport, and working with, uh, Brattain and, and Shockley, they invented the transistor, won the Nobel Prize, changed the world.

You know, if, if you can aspire to that level of science and technology, I think that's a model that we like to, like to think about.

So put another way, we'd like to generate knowledge for the ages, but technology for today.

I wanna talk about a man you mention in your course as well, and you mention with great glee that the only man to win two Nobel Prizes in physics was a condensed matter, uh, physicist-

I often hear it said that if it wasn't for the laws of quantum mechanics, we wouldn't have had the transistor.

And I always have a little bit of problem with that because if you look at the first transistor that they built, you know, Shockley, it, it was, it was-
