The original inception for Short Circuit was originally much darker in tone, much like other machine-gone-mad stories of the '80s had seen so far, like, uh, Blade Runner, The Terminator, and Alien in the '70s, obviously.

Obviously, all of those movies villainized machines and AI, where the writers, producers, and director wanted to do the opposite for this film.

Eric Allard had designed a very animated robot for a short called Let's Go, where Steven Spielberg had seen it and called Short Circuit director John Badham and told him, "You really need to use this guy for your new film." Originally, the script was to have the robot be fully CGI-

I was in Connecticut.
