John 1:17

John chapter 16, verse number 11.

John 16:11, "Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged," verse 12.

"I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now." Next verse.

"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth.

And the people at the front of the room are telling her she has to choose.

That is the crisis sitting underneath John 1, verse 17.

And it is a verse most people blow past because they think they already know what it says.

Law, then grace.

The divine passive tells you who the real giver was.

Now, the commentaries all agree on this verse, which always makes me want to reread.

Read any popular commentary on John 1.17, and you will find the word contrast within the first paragraph.
