Joffrey Ballet

And then the other is perfect for families.

It's called Joffrey Ballet: The Next Movement.

It's on Friday on PBS.

This follows five choreographers from Brazil, India, Puerto Rico, Brooklyn, and Chicago, and they race to create new works for the Joffrey Ballet.

Each artist enters the process with a different cultural background, a creative language, and a point of view, but they are all facing the same challenge, transforming this idea into a fully realized world premiere under the intense time pressure.

So it offers this very rare look at choreography as both an art and as a job, and the choreographers must communicate all of their ideas to their dancers, respond when something does not work, and then make creative decisions while knowing that their work will soon be presented to an audience.

So at a pivotal moment in each of their careers, this opportunity could establish a new artistic voice or maybe expose exactly how difficult it is to create something original.

So those are my picks this week, September fourteenth through the twenty-first.

Jazz and orchestral music come together in Joffrey Ballet's ambitious new production, Lilium.

The Chicago premiere comes from renowned choreographer John Neumeier.

The work was adapted from the 1909 Hungarian play that was the original inspiration for the much more well-known Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, Carousel.

I was at the premiere of Lilium with John Neumeier in Hamburg in 2011, and I had wanted to present Lilium then.

John had just finished creating it, and it was just too close to his heart to give it up.

This is Joffrey Ballet Artistic Director Ashley Weider.

I have just been very patient and, you know, he knew that I still wanted to do it.

Supposedly she cleaned her pool with Dom Perignon champagne and And we'll talk about the dying of something.

But yeah, she supported the Joffrey Ballet for years, as well as the Harkness Ballet Foundation.

So she was a philanthropist, even if people didn't like her.

And her best friend

The question really is, I know it's rhetorical, why? The amended complaint also includes new detail on Doe's background, saying she worked menial jobs to pay for training at Step on Broadway and the Joffrey Ballet and was about to begin rehearsal for the Nutcracker with the Igleski Ballet School when she was recruited to meet Jeffrey Epstein by another young female who had also fallen prey to Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking scheme.

This recruiter offered Doe, who came from a poor family and had been living with her mother, the chance at a job giving massages to a wealthy businessman.

So again, you see the same story unfold, right? Another girl, broken home, living with her mother, poor background.

And so she did four weeks at the North Carolina School of the Arts, which is a really prominent and intense dance program.

And then on a whim, because we needed something in August, she auditioned for a program through Joffrey Ballet.

And the program that we auditioned for was in New York City.

And they said, you didn't get into the New York City program, but we do think that you would be a good fit for Joffrey, Switzerland.
