Joel Taylor

Defense is another opportunity for them.

I love what Joel Taylor's doing at Mercer.

I don't know if the stats necessarily line up with the effort that we see.

But yeah, that's just how these things kind of read out.

So that should be an interesting Southern Conference matchup.

Two really, really good defense.

And Joel Taylor, see how he faces up against a pretty good Chattanooga team.

They got VMI this weekend.

A lot of familiarity among the coaching staff.

Yeah, Joel Taylor and I would be the closest thing to a brother that's not blood in this coaching profession, he and Joel Witt.

But Joel and I, we coached together at South Carolina State for two years.

And quite frankly, he probably should have been the defensive back coach.

And then we had the opportunity to bring him here when Mike Houston hired me as the defensive coordinator.

I said, there's only one way I'm taking this job.

If I could bring my secondary coach, which is Joel Taylor.

And so we won here.

Good win for Mercer.

Good win for their Joel Taylor there, Coach Jackson.

Well, if you're only gonna run for 73 yards, you can't only pass for 220 yards.

The, the, the defense for Western Carolina finally decides to show up, and the offense decides to stay in the parking lot of the bank until the damn thing opens at 9:00, and then figure out it, that it's Columbus Day and it's not opening up.

... you can bring in, you know, every quarterback that has n- you know, Division I experience.

You can put guys in the system, make them look real good, then lose those guys, uh, like Cole Gonzalez there.

But I mean, at the end of the day, the inconsistency falls on the head coach, and credit to Joel Taylor did enough, um, of what you had to do to win, uh, defensively and, you know, you won the way that you, you...

I think the only way that Mercer could have won, um, is one of those low-scoring affairs.
