What a gorgeous, cool lineup.

And then you've got Urban Art Orchestra on strings.

Anyway, personnel, Ben, bass and composer.

Uh, and then Joel Ross, and that's really why I picked this, to be honest, because you have said repeatedly that you like Joel as sideman better than leader.

Mm-hmm.

And I tend to agree with you, and I, when I saw him here, I thought, "This will be up Pat's street perhaps." Anyway, Joel Ross on vibes.

Uh, Sullivan Fortner on piano.

Chris Lewis, he's the one person I'm not familiar with here, on tenor.

From this record, released by Fortner, with his trio with bassist Tyron Allen II and drummer Kayvon Gordon, and out on artwork records, we listen to a song entitled Another Poignant Time.

We will hear Sullivan Fortner again, also in the next track, 5-4, from Anytime After Now, another excellent record by bassist Ben Wolfe, a beautifully flowing release with Wolfe's quintet, featuring Fortner on piano as well as Joel Ross on vibes, Chris Lewis on tenor saxophone and Aaron Kimmel on drums.

I don't want to pick cause I like them both, but you know, Thursday nights we do two acts and, uh, um, We hadn't had Joel Ross, the vibraphonist, lead his band in a while.

Now, Joel's a Chicagoan, right? And he went through the Jazz Institute programs.

He did the Brubeck Institute.

That's the classic from the pen of Antonio Carlos Jobim, the girl from Ipanema, done there by vocalist Astru Gilberto and her husband Jao at the guitar with Stan Getz at the tenor saxophone.

Before that, the all-star group Out Of Into, which features pianist and musical director Gerald Clayton, alto saxophonist Emanuel Wilkins, Joel Ross at the vibes, bassist Matt Brewer, and Kendrick Scott at the drums.

They did Infant Eyes.

Now one from pianist-vocalist Mose Allison.

Wow.

That's trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, heard there on drummer Joe Farnsworth's recording of I Fall in Love Too Easily from his The Big Room album.

And that tune also features Joel Ross at the vibraphone, Emmett Cohen piano, and Yasushi Nakamura at the bass.

In front of that, we heard from pianist Monty Alexander with bassist Ira Coleman, Idris Muhammad at the drums, and Derek DiCenzo at the steel pan from Monty Alexander's Ivory and Steel recording.
