Joe Simon

My mom and dad listened to that record on, like, 8-track on the way down to Bogalusa, Louisiana every summer.

It was Al Green, it was Ramsey Lewis, uh, Joe Simon, Bobby Blue Bland.

Like, all that music kinda...

And Ray Charles also.

Mm-hmm.

You know? And between Joe Simon and actually Ray Calabrese.

Wasn't Ray Calabrese-

Yes

And, uh, and Ray Ca- and I hadn't seen Ray, you know, since being a grown man.

We, you know, we graduated and I didn't see him anymore.

And that's when Common turned me on to Ray and said Ray worked for Joe Simon.

But Ray is really the reason that we even got into that opportunity because-

Fenton a soul.

Joe Simon did Traveling Man.

Henry Moore on the great Jetstream label out of Texas.

He really grabbed me.

Yeah, that's President Rickard.

So that's a reference to the old early Bronze Age character, I think was created by Joe Simon, if I remember correctly.

Oh.

Oh, that went over my head.
