Joe Garcia

So what ended up happening, man, I got a job as a field organizer on a congressional campaign back in 2010.

This is when Joe Garcia was running for Congress.

So I drove from Chicago all the way down.

They were like, hey, man, we got an opportunity in New Orleans.

And therefore, I ran like a whole slate of candidates for them.

And that's the year that we flipped that congressional seat.

Joe Garcia became the congressman.

That seat had not been blue since Carrie Meek had the seat that went all the way down, right? And so that was my experience.

Not that time.

In 2012, Rivera secretly helped fund the campaign for Justin Sternad, a Democrat mounting a primary challenge against Joe Garcia, the Democrat that Rivera was likely to face in his reelection bid.

Rivera allegedly used his then-girlfriend, Ana Sol Alliegro, as a go-between.

Sternad eventually went to jail for seven months over the scheme.
