Blake ThorntonHOST
13:46
As bad as that sounds and as cruel as that sounds, UC's offensive line, no problem at all.
Blake ThorntonHOST
13:51
Jude and Joe Cotton at the tackles should be just fine on the edges.
Blake ThorntonHOST
13:55
No reason they should be getting beat or having a rough day at that point, with the edge being probably their weakest point on that defensive front.
Blake ThorntonHOST
14:02
Look for Tayo, Cotton, and Lozawicki in the middle to really be working with the double teams.
Tony PikeGUEST
9:32
One of the big talking points this off-season was the left side of the offensive line.
Tony PikeGUEST
9:37
Taron Tayo, Joe Cotton, Evan Tangestani, left guard, has won every preseason award you possibly can in college football.
Pete SousaHOST
9:44
Yeah.
Tony PikeGUEST
9:44
You knew, man, up front, left side of the line, the blind side for JC French, the quarterback, they were gonna rely heavily on that.
Russ HeltmanGUEST
57:16
And I think a pretty solid right side configuration with Xavier Lozawicki at right guard and Judea Milan at right tackle.
Russ HeltmanGUEST
57:23
And then, of course, you got three guys who I think will have a really good chance of getting drafted come April in Tarantino, Joe Cotton, and one of the 50 best players in most consensus rankings across the country in Evan Tengestal, who is the biggest leader on the team at left guard.
Marisa ContipelliHOST
57:39
I'm glad you brought up that offensive line because that's what I was going to ask you is if you think they are going to be so run dependent early on just you know relying on one of their strengths being that offensive line and just looking at those names you just mentioned and you know some of the guys that hopefully we do hear their names called come April of next season just you know realistic expectations kind of where do you kind of lie when it when it falls to you know Evan Tagestahl and Joe Cotton and you know those those key names on the offensive line this season.
Russ HeltmanGUEST
58:07
I think Evan Tengestel's got a chance to be the best offensive lineman in the entire Big 12, if not a top 10 offensive lineman in the country.
Russ HeltmanGUEST
58:14
He was courted by a lot of big-name teams.
Mitchell WolfeGUEST
2:59
There are a lot of new pieces on the coaching staff for both teams.
Mitchell WolfeGUEST
3:02
Cincinnati's promoting to offensive assistants to offense co-offensive coordinators they bring in a new defensive coordinator BC has a new defensive coordinator Bill O'Brien's the new he's the new offensive coordinator quote-unquote he's just gonna be calling the plays but BC also has a ton of turnover on their entire coaching staff so lot of different pieces there but so it's a matter of in week one when there are a lot of new things who can get in their comfort zone the quickest and for cincinnati the one constant they have is their offensive line which uh your guests talked about um bringing back three starters on the left side joe cotton left tackle evan tangestal at left guard and tarantayo at center all those guys are back they're all veterans they've all played in this scheme and that's a big part of what's so important is that scott satterfield regardless of his offense coordinators he wants to run outside zone which is your your outside stretch run where the entire line flows one direction you try to get the get the running back to the edge and if that's blocked he can cut back up field uh through one of the other ways because you're stretching the defense horizontally so that's always been his mo going back to louisville going back to app state wherever he's been that's what he wants to do and he's going to continue that to do that this year uh last year cincinnati ran outside zone at the oh did i not write this down I thought I did.
Mitchell WolfeGUEST
4:17
Oh no, here we go.
Mitchell WolfeGUEST
4:18
44.4% of design brushes, which was the fifth most in the country.

Mitchell WolfeGUEST
16:18
game? I think for me, the matchup in the trenches is really going to dictate both sides of the ball.
Mitchell WolfeGUEST
16:25
Or for whoever has the ball, the battle in the trenches is really going to dictate how this goes.
Mitchell WolfeGUEST
16:30
Like you said, with BC getting a pass rush, with Chris Jones versus Joe Cotton...
Mitchell WolfeGUEST
16:36
most likely which is Cincinnati's left tackle who didn't allow a sack all of last year um and then the other side of the ball you know again this is going to be BC's offensive tackles versus uh Thomas Johnson who's the transfer from North Carolina Central could have a like you said a reunion matchup with Trevon Humphrey also from NC Central uh Thomas Johnson last year he had 12 sacks at the FCS level and led the FCS in pressures with 59 so very accomplished pass rusher uh somebody that they're going to need to take out of the game plan and uh or take out of the game, make sure that they have game plan well for him.
Cory KinnanHOST
30:59
Very bullish on Evan Tangsdall, a top 50 player for me coming into the season.
Cory KinnanHOST
31:04
I went back and I watched Joe Cotton yesterday, the left tackle, who I think needs some work.
Cory KinnanHOST
31:09
I think Tangsdall's feet are a little heavier than I thought they were initially going through it.
Cory KinnanHOST
31:13
But again, the grip strength and the hand pop is still...
Blake ThorntonHOST
3:55
Obviously, I'm no spokesman for UC.
Blake ThorntonHOST
3:57
I can just say when we're looking at the package, he really does give a vibe of a Joe Cotton.
Blake ThorntonHOST
4:02
maybe even better.
Blake ThorntonHOST
4:03
So I'd like to see him in red and black in Cincinnati to really begin developing his skill set.
James RapienHOST
62:59
And ready or not, week one is here.
James RapienHOST
63:04
And Marissa, well, you were able to catch up with Evan Tagesthal and Joe Cotton, two Bearcat stars, ahead of their matchup on Saturday.
Marisa ContipelliHOST
63:14
All right, guys, how would you maybe describe the culture that Coach Satterfield is building here at UC?
Evan TengesdahlGUEST
63:21
Yeah, the culture that he's kind of brought in with Nico and his staff as well is just like our goals.

5 MINS LATER

James RapienHOST
68:37
We had Dan Hort on yesterday, and he discussed the offensive line and expectations for that entire unit ahead of week one.
Dan HoardSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
68:46
But this could be the best offensive line in the country, and that's not hyperbole.
Dan HoardSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
68:50
The left tackle, Joe Cotton, is going to play in the NFL.
Dan HoardSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
68:53
The left guard, Evan Tangisdahl, is a first-team All-American on every list that you check.
Eric LillyGUEST
13:36
It is clearly the strength of this team.
Eric LillyGUEST
13:40
Joe Cotton transferred from South Dakota.
Eric LillyGUEST
13:42
When you show up to camp and you look at the offensive line, he is what you expect to see out of an NFL left tackle.
Eric LillyGUEST
13:53
He looks exactly like you would think he would look.
Dan HoardGUEST
1:23
This could be the best offensive line in the country and that's not hyperbole.
Dan HoardGUEST
1:27
The left tackle Joe Cotton is going to play in the NFL.
Dan HoardGUEST
1:30
The left guard Evan Tangisdahl is a first team All-American on every list that you check.
Dan HoardGUEST
1:35
The center, Tarrantayo, is getting some all Big 12 consideration.
Dan HoardGUEST
1:40
And I think the two new guys at right guard and right tackle are very good players as well.
Dan HoardGUEST
1:43
So it begins there.
Dan HoardGUEST
1:45
And then a lot of new guys.

9 MINS LATER

James RapienHOST
10:40
be seventh round picks make the roster make the roster for land in Landon's case in a really deep room with a lot of guys that were already going to make it.
Blake ThorntonHOST
4:18
We have the All-American with Mr. Tingisdahl.
Blake ThorntonHOST
4:21
You got Teron at center and Joe Cotton at left tackle.
Blake ThorntonHOST
4:24
All three are poised to be NFL veterans.
Blake ThorntonHOST
4:27
draft prospects, I do believe.
