Joe Casey

Uh, the next book for me is called "Terminal Image Comics".

This is written by Robert Kirkman and Joe Casey, art by Andy Kubert, uh, Dave McCaig, who we're big fans of on the show, colorist, and Russ Wooten is a letterer.

So this book is supposed to be kind of modeled after the '90s X-Men books, like the '90s, uh, groups, like superhero groups.

The first issue did not, was, I was not a huge fan of but I decided to keep going because it, it did scratch that nostalgic itch that I have for that time period.

Did you know that Joe Kelly and Joe Casey are different people?

Yes, you did.

You did mix them up at least once last week, but it's fine.

I always wanted to reestablish Krypton.

I wanted to, you know, And I get it the way Joe Casey was to set it up.

The coons come in and now you no longer have your dream realized or whatever.

And that's how we reset Zod or whatever.

He had to change everything.

out of necessity, ruling a planet is different behavior and requires different skills and different decision-making and compromise or whatever.

That's a different entire situation than trying to get to the point where you get to rule the planet, ruling the planet and getting to a place where you can rule the planet are two totally different things, right? If anybody's ever read emperor doom, classic Marvel graphic novel from back in the eighties, late eighties, where doom basically sticks to purple man and this giant amplification device and uses the purple man's powers to take over the world and he's so bored everybody's doing what he wants you know what he wants them to do and all the trains are running on time or whatever and he is bored out of his mind that everybody does what he wants to do it's what all he's ever wanted to do i want to rule the planet i want everybody to do what i want and then he's bored right i mean same thing here he did the thing and ursa punishes him for it it's really really interesting Yeah, does she bring back the young Zod? Is that how we're going to get a return of Zod since Zod was supposedly killed in present time? In a way, it's almost like – I mean Joe Casey doesn't have anything to do with this story.

But he talked about when Neil before Zod was announced about how he was really trying to return Zod back to kind of reset him or whatever.

Joe Casey is back.

Uh, he's got a few things going on right now.

Of course, his incredible, uh, series that he's doing with Robert Kirkman and, uh, so many, uh, signature artists, uh, for Skybound.

Sounds familiar, especially when we're celebrating Star Trek's 60th anniversary this week.

There's definitely, uh, flavors of that same trope in there, but in a very different way, and Ashley Wood's incredible art just makes this a very trippy, metaphysical treatment that, uh, goes in a lot of interesting directions.

And in a lot of ways it really is classic Joe Casey.

It's an area that he has covered many times through his career.

I like that.

I say all that to say we're talking about Joe Casey.

Yeah.

Co-creator of Ben 10.

Yeah.

But we all know Joe as, you know, the writer of Uncanny.

Is that what people know Joe Casey as?

No, I'm sure they know him.

I think it's in there because Joe Casey's right.

Maybe suspecting people will think that it's too obvious a pun if it's just called Officer Down and it's a pun on Officer Down in the line of duty.

It's interesting because there's an afterword in the deluxe edition of this comic that came out by the writer Joe Casey, we'll talk about in a second, where he talks about how it was about nothing.

It was supposed to have no themes, no anything.

And instead of looking right outside my window, I looked into the window of a Japanese manga, and I checked out Marvel Mangaverse Web of Blood, number one.

This is by the team of, this is Joe Casey, or sorry, Joe Kelly, written by Joe Kelly, and Jack Kelly, which I believe is his brother.

Son? Maybe, I don't know.

He's a comic book fan.

I got to tell you, working on this project...

Joe Casey writes up the scripts and stuff based on, you know, I guess they talk about the whole storyline or whatever.
