Joe Bonham

One, a standout track from Injustice for All, confronts the consequences of war with unflinching realism.

Inspired by Dalton Trumbo's novel Johnny Got His Gun, the song tells the story of Joe Bonham, a soldier catastrophically wounded in battle.

Trapped inside his own body, Joe can no longer see, hear or move beyond the tapping of his head.

S.O.S.

This might be the most important piece of audio we discuss today.

It stars James Cagney as Joe Bonham, a young World War I veteran who has suffered an unimaginably catastrophic artillery strike.

Joe wakes up in a hospital bed to discover the full extent of his injuries.

He has no arms.

And adapting it to a visual medium is incredibly difficult because on a movie screen, the audience is safely separated from the horror.

Right.

You look at Joe Bonham from the outside.

You pity him, but you are not him.
