Job 31

I'll be honest with you, this really touched me.

And I have read Job several times.

You know, you go through all your typical things and whatever, but I thought this was pretty imperative.

I thought it was just very, I mean, it just hit me.

And we'll go to Job 31.

So I would encourage you to read it.

Get your scripture out, get your iPad out, get to it.

I mean, that's just a moment of silence, right? So what you see, you make a covenant with what you see.

Alrighty.

Let's take our Bibles and go to Job chapter 23, verse number 10.

Job chapter 23 and verse number 10.

We are continuing our studies through the Scriptures.

In the last lesson that we taught on this series, we studied the testing of Job.

Today, we're going to study Job's restoration.

Job's restoration.

I said to Peyton as I was preparing this morning, just a few minutes before we sang, I said, last time I taught on the previous lesson, I thought there was almost like such a serious topic as you look at what happened to Job, right? In those first early chapters of the book and the trouble that comes in his life very unexpectedly.

You've got to control your eyes.

Turn to Job 31.

I realized that Job was boasting of his self-righteousness here, but he was pleading his case.

These guys were giving him a hard time.

Why then should I think upon a maid? You see, a lot of the problem with the thought life comes from what goes in the eyes.

You've got to control that.

He says in verse 9, same chapters, Job 31, 9, If my heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbor's door, then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

For this is a heinous crime, yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

Amen.

A reading from the 31st chapter of Job.

Job again took up his discourse and said, I have made a covenant with my eyes.

How then could I look upon a virgin? What would be my portion from God above and my heritage from the Almighty on high? Does not calamity befall the unrighteous and disaster the workers of iniquity? Does he not see my ways and number all my steps? If I have walked with falsehood and my foot has hurried to deceit, let me be weighed in a just balance and let God know my integrity.

If my step has turned aside from the way and my heart has followed my eyes, and if any spot has clung to my hands, then let me sow and another eat.

Yeah, no

... uh, Job 31 is a huge picture on, if you, if you really wanna study this topic of integrity and see what integrity looks like-

Yeah

... go read what Job says in Job 31, and I just wanna point you to verse six, right?

Okay.

He says, Job 31:6, he says, "Let me be weighed on honest scales." In other words, you know the, you know the famous verse in Job 31:1, right? "I have made a covenant with my eyes; when- why then should I look upon a young woman?" Job says, "I, I have integrity when it comes to sexual impu- uh, purity, so my integrity's there." But notice verse six again, "Let me be weighed on honest scales, that God may know" what? "My integrity."

Mm.

And that's what we've been talking about.

And so I think this will kind of explain a couple of things, too.

So if we look at Job 31, seven, it says this.

It says, if my step has turned out of the way and my heart walked after my eyes and if any blot has cleaved to my hands.

This is what he's saying.

All right.

So if we go back a couple of verses from this, We're going to make sense of this.

Job 31.1, it's just a couple of verses back, says, I made a covenant with my eyes.

Why then should I think upon a maid?

But what does that mean? I mean, we get almost no accounts of the rebellion itself.

I think that like Tim Mackey and the Bible Project, they do a really good job of saying the Satan when they introduce him in Job.

And they keep with that idea.

And I've never heard that his name is excluded and he is made irrelevant as an insult.

But wow, do I love that.

I was wondering if you believe that the Satan or the same accuser that shows up in Job is the same as the garden in Genesis 3.

I do.

Yeah, it's become quite popular to talk about Hasatan as if people understand Hebrew.
