Joannes de Laet

Anyway, British explorer Henry Hudson was one of the first Europeans to write about Manhattan back in 1609 and described a forested land very abundant in all kinds of timber, suitable for shipbuilding and for making large casks.

The Dutch geographer, Johannes de Laet, also wrote about the island, saying that the land is full of noble forest trees and grape vines.

From these accounts, it's clear that New York was once a rich, forested landscape with rough terrain and abundant wildlife.

So if humans were to disappear, this is probably how it would look again.
