Jo Dee Messina

Number four.

Jody Messina's record-setting run of number ones.

Jody Messina entered 1999 with a lotta momentum after her song Bye Bye broke through in 1998.

Now, what followed that breakthrough was a late-'90s chart run that hadn't been seen before from any female country artist.

I was talking to Jody Messina about that period in her career.

I asked if there was a moment in the late '90s where she felt invincible as an artist.

I remember Byron Gallimore telling me, my producer, saying...

Two consecutive number one singles from the same album from a female artist.

Hmm.

And I never listened to it, and I'm able to do things like a couple weeks ago record a Christmas song with Jo Dee Messina and play the Opry, you know, next month.

And I can also have a clothing line now at Macy's and go cut the ribbon with them next week.

Like, I, I don't understand that thought process of you can't have it all because I certainly think that you can, and I, I would always, always encourage women, and anyone, not just women.

Gotta tell you, this is gonna be fun for me.

Uh, I gotta ask you, what was your favorite, now that she's kinda resurfaced, we're talking about the female category earlier and how strong these ladies are right now, but I love, uh, Jo Dee Messina growing up.

Her music was so-

Uh-huh

Oh, amazing.

Nice.

I gotta ask you, what was your favorite top two or three Jo Dee Messina songs growing up?

Well, I remember walking around singing My Give A Damn's Busted.

A lot of people dragging because they went to the fair.

But boy, Jodi Messina, what a nice booking that was.

I'm glad she got the gig.

And people saw she has, they have so much energy.
