Right off the bat, I started immediately thinking about a podcast that we did recently talking about, you know, a lot of the women that are really killing it in metal right now.
JohnHOST

And I immediately thought of Tatiana Shmelak from Ginger, who's one of my favorite aggro singers because she's just she's a beast.
JohnHOST

I love seeing the underrepresented group of people stepping up and doing well in an arena that they're typically underrepresented in.
JohnHOST

And here is another woman who is crushing it in the hard, you know, really aggressive music style.

well when i first started like i said i was wanting to learn how to just like scream in my car so i could scream along to songs i liked that was around high school era but i never learned how to do it then but that's when justin bonnet's his solo project hungry lights he dropped his first album the orai ascent and little high school me obsessed with it so i was trying to learn how to scream along with that could not But then over the years, I really liked like Phil Bozeman, Dickie Allen, Travis Ryan, you know, all the big names in the industry.

So I'd say all like all those were like I really wanted to like take certain aspects from here and from over here, you know, and like try and model something for myself out of that.

I saw Ginger supporting Sepultura and Obituary Obituary opened, Ginger were in the middle and Sepultura headlined.
JimHOST
53:27
And I knew it was going to happen straight off and this isn't Roadrunner bias but Obituary just sounded fucking monstrous and Ginger just sounded like digital noise because it's just all track and fucking click.
DJGUEST
53:37
Froggy and backing track and it's all to, yeah, there's no rawness there.
DJGUEST
53:40
Obituary don't do click track.
JimHOST
54:06
i could follow obituary i could follow it i kind of knew it again this is me being like a stoner metal guy and i think you're right i think he just he dials the mix in and he earns his keep when something goes wrong and he can jump on it that's what i've learned like as a sound guy that's what i've learned like if you if you're dealing with a band that's just like well you got your drum channels and you got like four channels across the front and that's it it's like great we can dial this in by song two and the rest of the time you're just watching the monitor guy and watching the body language And then you're jumping on it.
LukeHOST
52:54
