So what kind of led you down your career path? What got you started with everything?
J
1:36Jing LiuGUEST
How did I start? I, beginning, I was, you know, a med school, in the med school, study veterinary medicine first.
J
1:47Jing LiuGUEST
But then somehow something happened to my own life, which is eat poison food, poison crap, you know, get really sick.
J
2:05Jing LiuGUEST
But to heal, to heal day by day, to get rid of, you know, the bloating, to heal the gut, and, you know, I have to work with the traditional Chinese medicine doctor.

Well, if our listeners do want to maybe work with you or reach out to you, how do we all contact you here?
Under the Banyan Tree - China's urbanisation 2.0
J
7:10Jing LiuGUEST
Yeah, I think we see a recent study by a government think tank associated with National Development and Reform Commission, which estimated that for every one percentage point increase for this residence in the urban area, that will cost the government about 110,000 renminbi.
J
7:36Jing LiuGUEST
Upfront cost will be more associated with provision of public school, maybe public rental housing.
China's urbanisation 2.0
J
9:36Jing LiuGUEST
We basically can estimate once the migrant workers and whoever living in the city without the, uh, local hukou might be more willing to spend, uh, if they know they can rely on the public, uh, health sy- healthcare, they can rely on the public school, public, uh, rental housing, et cetera, then they will be more willing to spend.
J
9:59Jing LiuGUEST
And if we assume their savings rate will come down by about 10 percentage point, uh, closing half of the gap with the urban residents, that's already about .8 percentage point boost to the GP by 2030.
J
10:15Jing LiuGUEST
And, uh, if the gap is completely closed, then that will be 1.3 percentage point boost to GDP only through the consumption channel.
US, China and more chocolate cake?

And notably, um, in the recent, uh, round of Paris negotiations, uh, both US and China decided to set up a regular mechanism, board of trade, um, and also board of investment to discuss, um, the idea being instead of wait until escalation and then, uh, negotiate to deescalate, set up a regular dialogue, uh, mechanism such that they can manage the tension from the initial point.

Fred NeumannHOST
Why do we need a board of investment between mainland China and the United States?
J
9:54Jing LiuGUEST
I think, um, in that announcement, the board of investment, uh, also refer to, um, how the bilateral investment can be improved in the future.
J
10:05Jing LiuGUEST
We know there's a lot of, uh, uh, foreign direct investment, uh, from US to China, but on the opposite direction, probably not enough, uh, outbound direct investment from China to the US.
J
10:18Jing LiuGUEST
I think it's probably the most challenging part because we see US has a CFIUS, uh, you know, uh, kind of, uh, assessment.
