I guess it's Hot Thoughts from 2017, Gimme Fiction from 2005, Lucifer on the Sofa from 2022, Kill the Moonlight from 2002, Gaga Gaga in 2007, and They Want My Soul of 2014. um we're just getting started with spoon i guess if we're going to be covering a lot more spoon so uh this did not make rolling stones list and spoon is ranked at us even 200 of overall artist rankings on best ever albums

they're often uh given the most one of the most consistent like indie rock bands around in terms of their output uh so yeah they are they were formed in austin texas in october of 1993 by lead vocalist guitarist brit daniel and drummer jim eno they they are the only two um original members that are still still with the band uh other other cast there's been some long long um Standing members, but not at this point when Spoon was out.

Do you guys remember where Spoon got their name from by chance?

It's not the Matrix, is it?

Ron Lafitte quit his job and quit the label, and then the label dropped them a week after.

And so they got really upset with Ron Lafitte and wrote two songs about him and how angry they were.

And so that... um after they were dropped dropped by the label that's kind of in the period leading up to this album um they had finished the first version of this album girls can tell in may of 99 with 10 songs and then brit daniel had moved to new york for kind of a change of pace from austin and to basically work temp jobs and drummer jim eno stayed in austin and designed semiconductor chips so I guess that's kind of his like other job or fallback job now I don't know if he does a full-time or not but it seems pretty lucrative in today's day and age I would imagine but this was a real kind of low point for the band they were kind of on it is one of those periods of time where like they didn't know if the band was basically kind of last this was kind of the last last-ditch effort And despite Brett Daniel thinking this was the band's best album, Girls Can Tell, the band's lawyer and manager reported no interest in the record.

So yeah, that left kind of an emotional toll on the band, and it was hard to record as well, and it took a long time to record the album.

This very early era of Spoon, we got Britt Daniel on guitar and lead vocals.

We got Jim Eno, he's on drums, and he'll stick around forever.

And we got Andy McGuire, she's on bass and backing vocals, and she won't be around for very long.

Spoon made a video for the later version of Nefarious in which all three members of the band are wearing sunglasses as they play the song in a living room while two people make out on the couch.

This song is called Waiting for the Kid to Come Out, and the weird sonic details here The super reverbed hand claps, uh, Britt Daniel's frantic overlapping vocals, the uneasy sense that any one element of this song could drop out at any time and maybe never come back, that's the essence of Spoon.

That's the mind meld between Britt Daniel, front man and primary songwriter, and Jim Eno, drummer.

Lot of people gonna be in this band.
