28:40
We're a people, which means that Jews are connected to Jews across the world.
28:44
And it's why October 7th was so painful for Jews in the United States because first, many of us had direct relationships to people who were affected by that horrible violence, and also because when other Jews around the world are suffering, Jews everywhere are suffering.
29:02
And also, the land of Israel is, of course, the ancient homeland of the Jewish people.
29:07
The state of Israel is a modern state created in the moment that many other nation-states were created in the period of the late 19th, early 20th century, is when empires were falling and lots and lots of nation states were being created, including Israel.
29:21
And Israel is also important to Jews because part of the reason that Israel was created was because in that moment in nation states, Jews were asking the question of, okay, well, there was a moment when it looked like enlightenment might bring safety for Jews in Western Europe in particular.

So I first want people to know why Jews care about Israel and Israelis, which is Jews aren't just a religion.

And also because when other Jews around the world are suffering, Jews everywhere are suffering.

20:17
So all to say that having Justin Israel Day Parade reduces the entirety of New York Jewish identity to connection to one country, which is a part of many people or most New York Jews identities, but it's not the entirety of it.
20:35
We have lots of identities.
20:37
And it means that also because this parade is led by a delegation that comes from – that's organized by the consulate that comes from the Israeli government, it means that being in this parade is – basically forces you, it's essentially a litmus test of, you know, forces you to march behind the current Israeli government, which, you know, seems like you're agreeing with their particular positions.
21:05
You're celebrating this country that is, you know, that has a government that has been moving further and further into illiberal democracy and fascism and, you know, endless occupation and endless war.
21:21
So it seems like that's what you're celebrating.
21:23
Now, most of the people who come to the parade are day school children.

28:37
So as a rabbi, what was Jewish life before 1948 or even before Alt Neuland was published in 1902? Like, what can Jewish life be without Likud looming over us? Okay, so I want to be clear that
