But like he's just not he doesn't have the same charisma as someone like John Kramer or even like Amanda to like really carry the soul of the franchise.

I guess like Hoffman's just kind of like he's the brute strength of the group.

I feel like he's basically as good of a successor as we could have gotten.

But if you just talk to normies who might have seen the Saw movies in the 2000s and are just thinking back on it, they probably don't even remember Hoffman.

He just doesn't have the same level of iconicness that John Kramer had.

So this is a psychological horror thriller, splatter horror, suspense mystery film that is a co-production of Canada and the United States.

Currently sitting on IMDb as a 6.2, Letterboxd a 3.1, Synopsis is Jigsaw.

abducts a doctor in order to keep himself alive while he watches his new apprentice put an unlucky citizen named Jeff through a brutal test.

So Jigsaw, a.k.a. John Kramer, is portrayed by Tobin Bell.

Jeff is portrayed by Mick Faden.

And then his apprentice in this one, of course, is going to be Amanda, portrayed by Shawnee Smith.

It gives all the backstory that you need.

seeing them gives you additional information i believe a sequel can have like a like this can have a contained horror film that can be watched as a franchise installment or a solo movie having seen the franchise something that i like is that it introduces threads that make sense going forward as well so another perk in its favor then let me kind of get into here when i find a franchise to be convoluted with how it starts you know with jigsaw and if you don't think too deeply into it and see how the pieces fall into place it is mind-blowing there are little comments that get dropped if you're paying attention that makes sense later in the film something i like to praise here with saw 2 is that it takes the game that you had in the first one and makes it bigger this does that the bet the better sequels build on mythology and go grander which is what happens here there's something i want to give credit for especially with how the characters are all connected now something else that i want to give some stuff here too would be Jeff and the game that he's in.

What a decent entry into the Saw franchise.

And the boy, John Kramer's legacy, lives on for another time.

I especially love him on The Handmaid's Tale, but I feel like he just doesn't fit that role here.

Tobin Bell is naturally stoic, and when he speaks as Jigsaw, it feels like you're hearing the literal voice of God listing out your transgressions before you're judged by trial.

Even when John Kramer isn't spelling out the rules of a deadly game, he always seems to be three steps ahead of anyone who tries to confront him.

So yes, sometimes I think a gender swap is in order.

If you told me they got Charlize Theron to be fucking Jigsaw or... anybody interested I mean fucking Catherine Hahn if Maren Ireland was Jigsaw
