Jett Howard

Again, we have all three of our, uh, of our two-way slots filled, right? Again, John Poultikis, who's returning from last season.

We have, um, Toby Lawal, who we just drafted this season, and then we signed, surprise, Jett Howard, right? So all three of our slots are filled.

I don't know if this means that-

Time to get this party going.

One of those guys is getting the chopping block.

If I had to pick, guys, I talked about this last week when we were previewing the, the preseason games against the Rockets.

I was saying, if Jett Howard doesn't sow us, show us something in these two preseason games, we need to let him go, right? There are plenty of young talented players that are dying for an opportunity, a, a spot on somebody's roster to, to, to prove what they've got.

And, you know, one of those names, again, he was a lottery pick just two years ago.

One is a rookie that we drafted this season, and that's going to be Toby Lawal.

The other is not a rookie, but he's on a two-way contract, Jet Howard.

We're going to talk about Toby Lawal first.

What we knew about Toby Lawal coming into the NBA is that he's insanely athletic.

He became a sweetheart for Mavs fans, and... we just kind of figured that he was going to get the third two-way spot because, you know, Tyler Smith had been waived, Ryan Nembhard had been traded.

So we had John Poulakidis and Toby Lawal, and everybody knew that it was going to be Keo DiRici that got the third two-way spot, but it didn't happen.

In fact, out of total left field, it was announced by the Mavs PR that the Mavericks have signed Jet Howard, right? Former lottery pick out of the University of Michigan.

Now, their paths did not cross when I say their, I meant him and Dusty May.

And then no other real guys got it up for him.

Jet Howard was getting up that much.

So yeah.

But yeah, I agree that like continuing to space the floor well on a team where literally nobody else can do that is important.

Little, get the, gotta get the jitters out, Rez.

If you're a Michigan fan, you're watching this team, you're, you're feeling some things today.

We were told nothing about, about this.

Does, does it matter? [laughs] I mean, we got Lundy, Lawal, and Jet Howard minutes in the first 12 minutes, so like-

Yeah.

... and I got this article that I'm coming out, that, that'll come out tomorrow, and I'm talking about, like, um, is the NBA patient with rookies anymore? And then there's really, like, a second draft.

You know, you got your guys like Jet Howard and Zachary Risacher.

You got these guys that are lottery picks, and now basically this is their second draft and their second team, hope, hoping that they can get s- at least some of what made the players first round picks.

And one of the things I mentioned that if you are, like, a guy where your defined role is to be a shooter and you're coming off the bench, you have to be elite, elite.

Bax is a little bit lacking in that area from what I typically do like to see, so I am curious to see how much more, you know, sustainable mass he can add to his body, which does limit how effective you're gonna be on, uh, on the defensive end as well.

But Jame, I'm, I'm gonna come at you, I'm gonna come back at you with the, the comparisons here from my, my little model that I made, okay? Um, the top five, like, drafted into the NBA prospects that, um, Stefan Bax compared favorably to, number one, Jet Howard at an 86.8.

Tony Snell two times over, two different Tony Snell seasons, um-

Um, out of those, I think- I want to try to find someone that kind of has a little bit more of that playmaking aspect to the game, 'cause I think that Box is a, a better playmaker and kind of just more feel than Hood.

And maybe you can give a little edge of the scoring to, to Hood possibly, but I think that's pretty close, too.

But yeah, it's like Jet Howard, just the passing aspect, and I do think Jet's a better shooter and shot maker.

Tony Snell, I just think that three and D, that's just not something that Box has.

So Orlando resigned guard Jalen Carter, center Colin Castleton on a two-way deal, and forward Jonathan Isaac acquired center Nikola Vucevic, the former All-Star, to a one-year $3.8 million deal.

Mo Wagner departs in free agency, signing with Brooklyn, alongside of Jett Howard who signed with Dallas.

Orlando originally selected Tennessee center Felix Okpara at 46 overall before moving his draft rights as part of a three-team trade with Washington and Milwaukee.

And in return, acquired the rights to Isaiah Nelson out of South Florida at number 51 overall, along with Cash, prior to coming to terms with Nelson on a two-way.

He played off of them really well and functioned with that group in there.

Uh, he's getting to be a better defender, and, uh, hopefully he stays healthy because he's played well in all of our breakdowns, all of our competitions, and he's had a chance to play five-on-five live." That's another one to, to watch, that, uh, the Mavs have brought in Jet Howard.

Like, these new, this new Mavs front office brought in Jet Howard, and they brought in, um, they brought in Toby Lawal when they drafted him.

Poultakis is the only one that this front office did not bring in, so if, if, if Seth Lundy's gonna move somebody off of a spot, it might be Poulathris, which I, I don't know about that one.

The two-way spots are not gonna make or break a team, but you want somebody with h- real high upside, and Seth Lundy may be that guy that, that has higher upside than, than a player like Poulakidas.
