So I, I get that as well, but still, watching, revisiting clips of this and some of these performances, I have to highlight his rendition of Jesus Walks with John Legend and D'Angelo.

Kanye West is well-known for using writers and has been pretty transparent about it.

His breakthrough single Jesus Walks was written by Chicago rapper Rhymefest, and he's also well-known for working with writers like Travis Scott, Pusha T, Lupe Fiasco, and Atlanta rapper CyHi The Prince.

Kanye even publicly credited Partyn Fontaine, Megan Thee Stallion's ex-boyfriend and a well-known writer for Cardi B, for writing his entire verse on the very personal song Violent Crimes, calling him "The Ghost In The Machine." Even heavyweight artists like Jay-Z and Nas are known for soliciting ideas from other artists.

Consequence, a New York rapper long affiliated with both A Tribe Called Quest and Kanye claimed that he has writing credits on Jay's iconic song Encore, because he helped come up with the hook.

And while plenty of artists use ideas from other songwriters, Drake's seeming imitation of reference tracks recorded by artists like Lil Yachty, Ivory, and Quentin Miller seem to be far beyond the pale.

The big difference between Drake and all these other rappers is that Drake is actively claiming to be a top tier lyricist while using other rappers rhymes, while producer rappers like Ye and Dr. Dre aren't contending for the same title.

So is ghostwriter killing hip hop? In many ways, writing for other artists has always played a controversial role in the rap game, from Rapper's Delight, to Still Dre, to Jesus Walks.

But Drake being exposed for using reference tracks has definitely put a whole new twist on the way rappers use ghostwriters.
