And those people are victims of that ideology.

I knew I was public saint.

I belonged to Jesus.

I intended to follow him.

And when I look back at that boy standing in the river, there are parts of his faith I almost envy.

There was a softness there, a simplicity.

Following Jesus seemed very straightforward.

Jesus said follow, so you follow.

And I still believe that.

A couple points.

First, Lindsay describes a priest as the icon of Christ to, quote, present and represent the love of God focused in Jesus Christ, end quote.

And how did Jesus express this love? suffering and service in humility and reaching out to help so by placing ourselves on a moral pedestal we don't get to sit back and say oh yay we are god's favorite child god will spoil us and sort of forget about the rest of creation we're actually giving ourselves a huge responsibility Second, Lindsay wants to drive home this point that priesthood is necessarily sacrificial.

But what do we mean by this? Other theologians have said this means making sacrifices of thanksgiving.

I guess this would be through ritual.

All that is evidence of is that at that time, people thought it was pleasing to God to sacrifice animals.

We don't know that that is true, and actually there's biblical support for the contrary.

Lindsay thinks the best example of priesthood is self-sacrifice or self-costliness, which is what Jesus Christ did for us.
