going into my turf on weak state and all of that but kidding aside you even have forecasts and projections here how did you come up with this that data sets
0:50
well this is this is a book about about is a series of deep reflections about the philippine economy um And we asked a group of co-authors in La Salle, three, four years ago, we were asking, what is this economy moving towards? We were thinking the 100th anniversary of independence, the year 2046.
1:17
And somebody says, that's very nice, but the year 2046 doesn't seem marketing, doesn't have marketing.
1:23
So why don't we talk about 2050? So the idea was to say, what is this economy moving towards? And it's still a reasonable future because if you say, what is it going to be 100 years from now, I do not know.
1:36
That would be pure speculation and no.
1:39
But it's still 25 years.
1:41
It's long, but at the same time, we're thinking about people, many of us potentially will be alive, et cetera, et cetera.
3:27
that
18:44
[laughs]
18:44
Well, the characterization is, um, a ...
18:48
And I think for historical reason, the type of training that, uh, that economists get here is, and I think, I hope everybody understands, um, the term, it's very orthodox.
18:57
And orthodox is, is an economics that is driven by classical and neoclassical thinking and, and beliefs.
19:05
Is that, uh, is in the faith in the market, that the market does it.
19:11
Um, it is a rejection of the government as a good actor into the economy, much less so probably something that we will discuss later, industrial, industrial policies.
19:21
And this is what, what the country has done.

50 MINS LATER

69:24
So what's going on here? Why is everything so down? Wow, investment negative 9.2.
