The Roswell that most of us recognise today begins much later.

And we have to go forward then to 1978, when UFO researcher Stanton Friedman interviewed former intelligence officer Jesse Marcel, who'd been involved in recovering the debris.

Marcel said the material shown publicly in 1947 was not what he believed he had recovered.

A 1980 book, The Roswell Incident, then helped transform the forgotten 1947 debris story into an alleged extraterrestrial craft and government cover-up.

So coming back onto the later recollections then, how much weight would you give Jesse Marcel's later recollection compared with the contemporary photographs and records given at the time?

And Jesse Marcel attests that like all those photographs of him holding up like what looked like tinfoil.

He's like, this isn't what I saw.

This is what they told me to pose in front of and all that.

Wilcox contacted Roswell Army Airfield.

The Army Air Forces dispatched Major Jesse Marcel, the intelligence officer for the 509th Bomb Group.

The headline appeared in the Roswell Daily Record, RAAF Captures Flying Saucer on Ranch in Roswell Region.

The release originated from Roswell Army Airfield and was approved by Colonel William Blanchard, commander of the 509th Bomb Group.

That's what's been going on.

Anyway, in 1978, and that wasn't all, okay? So in 1978, strong evidence of a UFO crash retrieval and cover-up program began to take shape when the former top intelligence official who was stationed at Roswell Army Airfield in 1947, Major Jesse Marcel Sr., went public with claims that the United States government recovered an alien craft in the desert outside of Roswell and that he was ordered to stay quiet about it.

In subsequent years, hundreds of civilian and former members of the military stepped forward to report that not only was a craft recovered, but also that dead alien bodies were found.

Some reports also indicated one of the creatures survived the craft.

There are so many stories like this where people were threatened to death, threatened with death, that if you say anything about this, they're going to be picking your bones out of the desert.

There was lots of different witnesses that made statements to that effect.

And also Jesse Marcel Sr.

I mean, why would the top intelligence official after 30 years or more than 30 years went by when the incident after the incident happened, then he decided to go public.

They've been some of my best interviews.

When I let people say, "Well, who are the insiders that are gonna come out with this information?" But if you go back to Roswell, the first one on the scene was Major Jesse Marcel with the 509th Bomb Wing.

Very elite.

Later Colonel Marcel.

And, and then he brought the in- the, the articles back to show his son, which is amazing.

He wanted to show his son the metal that bounced back and the hieroglyphics on one of the features.

And he later, Jesse Marcel Jr., was a colonel.

In fact, in the '60s, he was in the Iraq War and went back as a, a medical doctor.

So what we're dealing with is a case where we're looking at the... whole of the Roswell case, starting with Mack Brazel going into the Roswell sheriff's office with some of the debris, some samples of the debris, and showing them to the sheriff.

The sheriff calls out to the base, and Jesse Marcel comes out, and he doesn't recognize the materials, and he talks to the base commander, Blanchard.

Blanchard says, well, go out and take a look at it.

So he goes out with Sheridan Cavett, who was a counterintelligence guy, to the ranch managed by Mack Brazel and find a field full of this stuff.

Jesse Marcel had left a large record of statements on tape and video.

Roswell and then Rendlesham Forest and even other cases where you get these craft that have this strange kind of hieroglyphic type writing on it that nobody knew how to decipher so him saying that isn't anything new.

Like I said, it was all the way back to the I-beams in Roswell, where Jesse Marcel claimed that it had this sort of hieroglyphic type writing on it.

And even in Rendlesham Forest in 1980, they were claiming that the ship that they saw had some kind of strange writing or symbols on it that they couldn't decipher.

Never given access to the upper level of the disc, so I can't enlighten you as to what the porthole-like areas are, other than I can assure you that they're not portholes.
